“Mozi the Donkey” – stuffed animal
“Mozi the Donkey” – the stuffed animal – is hand-made exclusively for Nazareth Village by People with Special Needs in a dedicated Employment and Vocational Rehabilitation program, called “Shekel”.
Nazareth Village is a living history farm and village. Since the most common work-animal and means of transportation (besides human feet!) was the donkey, we also own and breed donkeys.
Mozi is one of our donkeys. If you have visited the village, you will likely have seen him either pulling the threshing sledge over wheat on our Threshing Floor in the Summer or move the crushing stone in our Olive Press in the Fall. Mozi became even more famous when he got animated and began starring in our children’s movie “Growing Up With Jesus.”
“They brought the colt to Jesus, and threw their garments on it; and he sat upon it. And many spread their garments on the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. Those who went before and those who followed cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!”
Mark 11:7-10 (RSV)
“All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet [Zachariah 9:9], saying: “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
Matt 21:4-5 (NKJV)
